New Nets At Bushwick Parks

Swerve Church will be putting up new nets at several Bushwick parks this summer. Tonight (July 18th) at 6:30 PM we will be putting up new nets on four rims at Bushwick Playground on Putnam Ave. between Knickerbocker and Irving Ave.

It's summer in NYC so that means lots of families head to the local parks for some pick up basketball or to cool down in the sprinklers. Why not take this opportunity to help our community in a small way and hang up some nets? This may not be a big deal but we see it as a simple opportunity to be able to serve our community and neighbors.

I (Danny) wanted Bushwick playground to be the first rims we hung nets on because just two weeks ago there was a shooting there. I was at the park that day with my family when it happened. It was horrible to see all the families running out of the park in terror.

This gives me a stronger desire to plant Swerve Church. It shows me how desperately Bushwick needs Jesus. Only the gospel reconciles us with God and each other. The gospel teaches us to love others as we love oursleves. It teaches us to forgive those who have wronged us because Jesus forgives us of our many sins.

So while it may not seem like a big deal, I pray that it may be the beginning of many more things to come and many more opportunities to serve our community. I invite you to join us tonight as we hang the nets. Lets turn it into a big community gathering! You can help us pass out waters and test out the new nets. It should be lots of fun!
