Swerve Church 2014 Update

Happy new years everyone! It has been a while since we've posted on the Swerve Church blog. Let me take an opportunity to update you on all that is going on.

We're approaching the end of a great series we studied at the Life Group. "The Christian Atheist; believing in God but living as if he didn't exist" really challenged us to examine ourselves and identify the bits of Christian atheism. We were able as well to challenge the cultural Christianity we see all around us. If we are truly impacted by the gospel, then there will be ramifications and proof of it in our lives.

I (Danny) can honestly say that I have been so blessed to see the growth not only in myself, but in the lives of those who have been attending. We'll be wrapping up our final week on Tuesday January 28th at 7 PM. If you're interested in joining us, we'd love to see you there!

Following this series we'll be starting another great set of sessions called "Weird; because normal isn't working". We invite you to check it out. You can view some more info here.

We began weekly pre-launch gatherings on Sundays
this month. These are times of worship,
fellowship, prayer and a relevant Bible teaching from Craig Groeschel.

We'll be wrapping up a series called "Small Things Big Differences" this Sunday, January 26th at 12:30 PM. You can catch up on any of the teachings you missed here.

Lastly, we'll be heading to Covenant House Saturday February 1st at 7 PM to bring some encouragement and snacks to the homeless, abandoned and at-risk youth there. Would you like to join us? Send an email to info@swervechurch.com and let us know.

Here are some things to pray for:
  • Pray for me and my family.
  • Pray for God to send more laborers.
  • Help us pray for 3 key leaders to help us lead the church plant.
  • Pray for a location for us to meet for our preview services and launch.

If you or someone you know is interested in helping us plant a gospel-centered, relevant and fun church in Bushwick, please let m know! Drop me an email at danny@swervechurch.com. Or hit me up via Facebook or Twitter.

Christmas At Covenant House

Christmas is fast approaching! Can you believe it? Soon we'll be decking the halls and fighting for parking spots at the mall.

Around this time we get extremely busy and it can actually be a quite stressful time of the year. But for most of us we'll have family to spend the holidays with. We'll indulge in all different types of rich and delicious food. Many of us even have a loving church family that we can visit and laugh with.

But there are many people in NYC who won't treasure those moments. They will not spend time with their family. They will not indulge in a huge meal. They do not have much reason to laugh.

That is unless you make a difference in their lives. Unless you make moments for them to treasure. Unless you become their family if only for an evening. If you give them food to enjoy. Unless you put a smile on their face.

We'd like to invite you to Covenant House, a place of refuge for homeless, runaway and at-risk youth. For about the past five years or so, we have been going the first Saturday of the month so share
some hope with the youth there.

With Christmas fast approaching, we'd love to do something extra special this time. I'd like to know if you want to help? Help this day be a moment they will remember forever. That evening in December that some Christians got together to give a group of youth a great time. That fed some tummies and put smiles on some faces.

So, how can you help? We want to bring them some of the most delicious desserts they ever tasted. Maybe you enjoy baking cookies or cake. Share your favorite cake or cookie! Not much of a baker? Could you purchase some paper plates, plastic cups, utensils or napkins?

Another way you can help is by sharing your talents. Do you have a musical talent? Do you have an inspiring testimony? Do you enjoy sharing the gospel through poetry or spoken word? Please let us know if you'd like to participate with your talents at the event.

So, what are you going to do? We'd love to see you December 7th at 6:30 PM at Covenant House.
