Faith is a journey not a guilt trip

OLOGY

11/10/2015

As we continue to plan and prepare for our launch next Easter, we've begun a series that will serve to lay down some solid foundational truths as to who we are and what we do as a church. The series is Ology.

The definition of Ology is "the knowledge of." We titled it this because we are focusing on the most essential parts of the church. But we are not simply pulling our "ology" out of thin air. Rather we are focusing on these truths from a Biblical perspective. If we truly want to be a "life giving, gospel centered church", then we have to know what that truly mean and it has to be based off of Scripture.

Here's a look into the topics we will be discussing:
  • Bibleology
  • Gospelology
  • Churchology
  • Faithology
  • Givology
  • Servology
  • Kidology
  • Evangelology
  • Funology
  • Worshipology
  • Giftology
Join us as we explore through these important topics and develop the Swerve DNA.

NETWORK SUMMIT NOTES | Part 1

10/1/2015

My wife and I were able to fly down to OKC for the Network Summit at LifeChurch.tv. Below you can catch a video recap of everything that went down.

Over the next few week we will share a few of the notes that were taken from some of the sessions at the Summit. We really hope that it inspires you! To the Swerve Church team, I hope that in the near future you will be able to take the flight with us to the next Summit so  that we can learn and be inspired together.

Bobby is the mastermind behind the Bible App. He is currently Pastor of Innovation at Life.Church. He was first up of a series of sessions at the Summit this year. Here's some of my notes:

There were 90 countries and 6 continents represented at The Summit this year!

3 Statements That Define Network

1:: We are the Network and we exist to reach the world and make Jesus known.
  • Lazy people don't need vision to be lazy.
  • This network is all about reaching people.

2:: We are Network and we are generous.
  • Generosity doesn't begin with resources. It begins with the heart.
  • We all have to contribute.
  • Give time, resources, finances.

3:: We are Network and we grow.
  • We grow individually as leaders.
  • We grow as a network.
  • We have to have a plan/vision for growth.

:: Think beyond the launch.

:: This journey is not a sprint or a marathon but a series of sprints.

:: Regardless of how big the milestone there is always room for growth.

:: Questions to ask yourself, "Where do you grow from here?"

:: Plan for a future that demands our growth and cannot be done apart from God.

FIRST GATHERING OF THE FALL

What a phenomenal time at our first gathering of the fall! We gathered at Irving Square Park right here in Bushwick for a time of prayer, encouragement from the Bible, fun and games, and some vision for where we're going.

If you weren't able to make it here are a few of the highlights:
  • We celebrated all the opportunities to serve our community this summer.
  • There will be some more awesome opportunities to serve this fall including the Halloween Outreach and Operation Christmas Child.
  • Gatherings will continue on a weekly basis as we prepare for launch.

Definitely be on the lookout as we will continue to gather more regularly. Look forward to receiving emails about times, locations, and what to expect. Another great way to connect is via our Launch Team Facebook Group page.

Look forward to seeing you at one our upcoming gatherings!

TRIP TO CONNECTICUT

Swerve took a trip to Hamden, Connecticut to visit our good friends and fellow Network Church, Frontline! We had a great time just spending some time together, having fun in the pool and eating out. We used this trip as an opportunity to get to know each other more, but also as a spiritual investment as we spent time in God's Word and in prayer. Sunday we were able to help set up church since Frontline meets at Hamden Middle School.

I was so happy to catch up with some great friends. After, Elly invited us over to enjoy the most delicious home-cooked meal that you could ever have! I'm so thankful to have people like this that truly care, love and believe in what we're doing here in Bushwick. God has really placed around some amazing people providing incredible encouragement and support.

Be sure to keep Pastor Rick and the team at Frontline in prayer as they are doing a great work in Hamden leading people to become fully devoted followers of Jesus. I'm so proud to call them friends!

Whoever finds God, finds life!

Swerve Church 2014 Update

Happy new years everyone! It has been a while since we've posted on the Swerve Church blog. Let me take an opportunity to update you on all that is going on.

We're approaching the end of a great series we studied at the Life Group. "The Christian Atheist; believing in God but living as if he didn't exist" really challenged us to examine ourselves and identify the bits of Christian atheism. We were able as well to challenge the cultural Christianity we see all around us. If we are truly impacted by the gospel, then there will be ramifications and proof of it in our lives.

I (Danny) can honestly say that I have been so blessed to see the growth not only in myself, but in the lives of those who have been attending. We'll be wrapping up our final week on Tuesday January 28th at 7 PM. If you're interested in joining us, we'd love to see you there!

Following this series we'll be starting another great set of sessions called "Weird; because normal isn't working". We invite you to check it out. You can view some more info here.

We began weekly pre-launch gatherings on Sundays
this month. These are times of worship,
fellowship, prayer and a relevant Bible teaching from Craig Groeschel.

We'll be wrapping up a series called "Small Things Big Differences" this Sunday, January 26th at 12:30 PM. You can catch up on any of the teachings you missed here.

Lastly, we'll be heading to Covenant House Saturday February 1st at 7 PM to bring some encouragement and snacks to the homeless, abandoned and at-risk youth there. Would you like to join us? Send an email to info@swervechurch.com and let us know.

Here are some things to pray for:
  • Pray for me and my family.
  • Pray for God to send more laborers.
  • Help us pray for 3 key leaders to help us lead the church plant.
  • Pray for a location for us to meet for our preview services and launch.

If you or someone you know is interested in helping us plant a gospel-centered, relevant and fun church in Bushwick, please let m know! Drop me an email at danny@swervechurch.com. Or hit me up via Facebook or Twitter.
